About the Project
Air base connects geothermal, wind energy, battery storage to smart microgrid
As part of a joint venture, Stanley Consultants prepared planning documents for a 3.5-MW geothermal-powered microgrid that integrates with other new and existing power sources, all inter-connected to the utility power grid. This project will construct a microgrid that connects a geothermal plant, 8 MW battery storage system and existing wind turbines.
This innovative project will provide redundancy in the electrical distribution system and black start ability to switch between grid power, on-base resilient power or generators at critical facilities. Upgrades to the existing seven base distribution system circuits will entail switchgear replacement, a redundant line for circuit interconnection and one line to be upsized. Stanley Consultants also performed controls design, requirements development and specifications, cyber security, life-cycle cost analysis and high-performance sustainable building checks.
